Westonbirt arboretum is one of the UK’s longest-running and most popular Christmas lights trails. Their strong focus on sustainability meant the use of traditional diesel powered generators needed to be reduced over time, as well as energy reliability be increased. SolCell’s mobile system were ideal. The mobile systems are power stations that can be setup anywhere to generate, store and supply entirely green, silent, emission-free energy.
One of the trickiest areas of the Westonbirt site was the entrance area as it needed to remain illuminated 24/7 for both advertising and site safety. The long-duration of power needed made fossil-fuel powered generators to costly.
The SolCell system utilised a micro-solar farm of 20 panels to generate power and the large battery expansion rack to store and deliver power.
As power delivery was critical and the event in winter, the SolCell system was configured in a “hybrid” fashion meaning that, should there be no sun and the batteries run empty, a diesel generator would be temporarily powered up to charge the batteries and then turn off.
This backup power gave the client the reassurance that was need – but the generator was never needed as SolCell delivered.
