Skyline park is an tech and industrial park in Bristol, UK. The property owned intended to completely refurbish and carbonise one of the properties, whilst also strive for energy independence. With a large roof area of circa 10,000 square feet there was an opportunity to install over 300 solar panels, equating to over 120kw of solar power.
With east and west facing pitches the roof would not be seen as optimally configured.
The client was aiming for the longest duration of generation, rather than highest possible yield. As such this worked out ideal for the application. In addition to the solar panels, a large-scale battery system was installed which enabled the client to capture excess solar and use it at night.
The client was the landlord of the property who made the investment to support the tenant with low-cost, green energy. Using advanced measuring capabilities provided by solcell, the landlord is able to do quarterly billing for the energy usage.
The arrangement is known as a “power purchase agreement” and means the tenant gets low-cost, fixed-price energy while the landlord achieves a high return-on-capital from the investment in the renewable power infrastructure.
Both the landlord (Autonomous Investments) and tenant (PYTCH) achieved extensive media coverage from this installation, as well as high engagement from their business community who are curious about the system.
